 Safe & reliable child care

Small Wonders Day Care, located in Mountville, PA, is a licensed small group home for preschool children whose parents work during the day. Our mission is to provide a safe, loving environment where Christ is an ever present guest.

Throughout the day we will provide the same experiences and attention you would give your child if you could devote ALL your time and energy to him or her. Small Wonders Day Care is committed to add growing and learning experiences to your child's life, primarily through play because "play is a child's work".

Our staff is here to provide continued attention to your child's needs and abilities. Our goal is not to replace you as parents, but to compliment and support each individual family.

Our Philosophy

We will present Christian principles and and strive to become more Christ-like as we live out each day together. We believe that a preschool program should reflect an interest in the whole child. Each child has physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs that must be enhanced. Our program provides children with a large variety of activities that allows for success and encouraged advancement in all areas of development. It is our utmost concern that our program provides a nurturing, comfortable environment that is specifically structured to meet the physical, emotional and developmental needs of each individual child. We feel it is important that we work closely with the families in order to secure an environment that is most beneficial to the child.

Wanetta Gerlach, Director

"Nita" began babysitting for her 3 month old niece the summer before she was 16. A few years later as a young wife and mother, she realized the responsibility and uncertainty a parent experiences when the need arises to find suitable substitute care. While caring for her own 3 daughters, she often babysat for nieces, nephews, and neighbors while their parents worked. It soon became a small business, and she became a licensed family daycare operator in 1992. In 1995 the business had grown, and the license was upgraded to a Group Home (12 children). In 1997 she graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. Besides working with children in her home, Nita has taught varying ages of children in Sunday School for several years, served as Children's Director at Living Hope Church, and worked with 4H clubs. She is the proud Grandma to 12 beautiful grandchildren.

Sharon Hostetter, Primary Caregiver

Sharon began working part-time at SWDC in 2000. She is the mother of 2 children, and proud Grandma to 2 wonderful grandchildren. She has taught children's classes in Sunday School for many years, and has helped in the preschool at her church. She has a strong desire to see children grow into reliable adults.

Cathy Long, Primary Caregiver

Cathy is a wife and mother of 3 children. She spent many years as their home school teacher. Cathy worked as a volunteer in a Head Start Program in GA as a young adult, and currently works in the nursery at her church. She enjoys observing and assisting children as they grow.

Nichole Shirk, Primary Caregiver

Nichole is currently pursuing a degree in Elementary Education at Millersville University. She graduated from Manheim Central High School and Lancaster County CTC, where she earned her certificate in Early Childhood Education program.

We are enrolled with CACFP, a nutrition program which monitors our menus. The meals are prepared in our kitchen. Much of our food is fresh from the garden in the summer, frozen and stored in our freezers until time for the table. The children help with the preparation for the freezer, giving them opportunities to feel useful.

CACFP featured our day care in their national newsletter in January 2017 as a quality child care program.
